THE NEWEST MODELS
In the afternoon I’ll ride my bicycle down to Cardiff reef and maybe paddle out the 7-foot Sunday for a cruise. Then before sunset I’ll ride the 5’6 at Seaside if its good.
My favorite thing about the Sunday is how it occupies both sides of the spectrum. I ride both the 5’6 and the 7’0. That covers a lot of territory.
The 5’6 is about six liters more volume than I’d normally ride in a shortboard. And that’s the most important thing - size up your Sunday. Don’t be shy. Ride more volume and relax.
It is extremely fast and is very trustworthy in steep surf. It likes the pocket a lot more and has much more bite in it than a Seaside. Works great at your true shortboard liters, largely due the wider tail. It also paddles a little better than the Seaside.
The sweet spot is bigger and less critical, you can surf forward on it easily, it generates great speed down the line, but with great control and the rail still engages well.
Working with Rob and the crew at RMS has been amazing for my surfing progression. Having one of the best surfers in the world with years of shaping experience make custom boards catered to my style and surfing ability level has been a total game changer. I'm 6'2" 245 lbs but Rob's magic touch has me going fast on all types of waves and board types, from a 5'2" Glaser to a 9'0' Seaside! Any Rob Machado Surfboard is going to be magic and built to last!
The Midas Surfboard by Rob Machado is the Swiss Army Knife of surfboards. It truly is remarkable in its ability to grovel in the smallest of waves as well as be able to hold properly in good waves. It has worked for me in everything from 1-8 feet, small and slopy to draining barrels. Some of Rob’s models have more notoriety but this is a secret weapon!!! The Midas also works for all skill levels, a beginner will find it easy to paddle and catch waves on. The board will give an expert surfer a spark to draw different lines and put an extreme amount of “fun” back into everyday surfing. I have never had a board that covers almost every type of wave condition, its range is truly remarkable. It is my favorite board model in his line, also the epoxy blank and glassing have been incredibly durable. After 4 years I am still riding mine, never had a board last this long!!!
Rob is great at recognizing peoples abilities in the water and is able to translate into the board. His knowledge of surf spots, conditions and waves comes through when you order a custom board. He really takes into account body shapes and types while making sure you're not missing out on the abilities of a board. His imagination and artistic designs really separate himself from other shapers. Riding one of Rob's board makes you feel his vibe and enjoy surfing the way he does... Not to mention it significantlly inproved my cut backs.
